Draft Statement of Community Involvement

Between 30 March and 4 May 2017 the Planning Policy Team consulted on an updated Statement of Community Involvement (SCI). The SCI explains how we will involve local communities and other interested parties when we prepare our planning policies and determine planning applications. By engaging with the community the council benefits from detailed local knowledge and expertise, and community commitment to the future development of the borough.

The council first adopted an SCI in 2006. The document has been updated to:

  • Include guidance on neighbourhood planning;
  • Promote the use of new and innovative methods in consultation; and
  • Provide guidance to developers on how they should engage the community before submitting a planning application.

The draft guidance can be found here and is available for inspection at Brent public libraries.

The consultation is now closed. All comments will be considered and the document amended as necessary, before being taken forward for adoption.
