Statement of Community Involvement

MeetingThe Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) explains how we will involve local communities and other interested parties when we prepare our planning policies and determine planning applications. By engaging with the community the council benefits from detailed local knowledge and expertise, and community commitment to the future development of the borough.

The council first adopted an SCI in 2006. This needed to be updated to:

  • Include guidance on neighbourhood planning;
  • Promote the use of new and innovative methods in consultation; and
  • Provide guidance to developers on how they should engage the community before submitting a planning application.

We invited comments on the updated SCI between 30 March and 4 May 2017. In light of feedback a number of amendments were made to the SCI. These amendments are set out in the consultation statement below. Brent Council’s cabinet adopted the finalised SCI at its meeting on 24 July 2017.
