European Settlement Scheme

The UK left the European Union on 31 January 2020.

This means that you now need to apply to the EU settlement scheme for permission to live and work in the UK if you're from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein.

The deadline to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme was 30 June 2021. However, you can still apply if you or a family member were living in the UK by 31 December 2020.

You must also either:

• meet one of the criteria for a later deadline to apply
• have ‘reasonable grounds’ for not applying by 30 June 2021

Identity document scanning service

Brent Council provides an identity document scanning service for those applying to the EU settlement scheme. If you do not have access to an android device, you can make an appointment to get your EU biometric passport or UK biometric residence card scanned and verified for you.

Note: You must not start your application before you attend your appointment.

Use of the app will be optional, and you will also be able to send your identity document to the Home Office by post to verify your identity.

What to bring to your appointment

• your current valid EU passport or valid biometric residence card
• a mobile phone that can receive text messages or a device that can receive email

This service does not currently accept national identity cards. We will not need to keep your identity document and in most cases, you will not be asked to send it anywhere else during your application. 

In some cases, the Home Office may ask you to attend a further appointment or send in your identity document for a decision to be made on your application.
