With Christmas almost upon us I have been reflecting on what the festive season actual means – it is easy to get caught up hauling the trolley around the supermarket or rushing to get the last gifts to put under the Christmas tree.
The spirt of Christmas and the essence of the other religious celebrations we have had recently, including Hanukkah and Diwali is about goodwill, respect and kindness.
Brent’s diversity and the qualities of respect, consideration and tolerance shown by the different communities make this such a great place to live.
Most of us will be happily spending time over the Christmas and New Year holidays with family and friends – but there are many people in the borough who find this time of year difficult or may be spending it alone.
It is fantastic that in Brent there are so many people who volunteer for local charities, participate in community groups and look in on elderly neighbours. This kindness really captures the festive spirit and what is great about living in Brent.
I am looking forward to the New Year, and while there will be challenges, there is also much to look forward to as we continue to work hard to make Brent an even better place to live.
I’d like to wish you all a happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year.
