Shaping Brent’s future

There are two big asks this autumn, both of which will have a big impact on Brent’s future. The Local Plan sets out how the borough will grow to meet future demand and our bid to become London’s Borough of Culture 2020.

Working together for a safer Brent

Too often we are reminded of how fragile life can be. And too often we see lives ruined or lost to the tragedy of senseless violence. Indeed, I’m sure each of us offered thoughts and prayers to those caught up in the recent horrific attacks in Manchester and London Bridge.

A Lifelong Guarantee

It's getting harder to meet demand for public services. More people need more help and in many cases, their needs are more complex than they've ever been. At the same time, the Government has cut our funding in half which means that there simply isn't enough money to properly meet everyone's needs. Nowhere is this more acutely felt than in adult social care. Indeed, many councils are starting to worry that these services could become unsustainable.

Happy New Year

By the time you’re reading this 2017 will be well underway. Nevertheless, Happy New Year! Whether your 2016 was a good one or not, there will have been many valuable lessons that we should all try to learn from. Among my many resolutions, I’m going to work harder at keeping things in perspective. I’ll remember to make gratitude and humility a far bigger part of each day. And, instead of dwelling on past events, I’ll ask myself what I did to make something better or worse, and what I could have done differently. I’m doing this not to churn things over, but to ensure that I learn from each experience and do better next time around.

Support local traders this winter

It’s that time of year again: the weather has turned cold, we’re wrapped up in scarves and gloves and wondering where the past year has gone. In the past few weeks, our Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain communities have celebrated Diwali, our Jewish community is set to enjoy Hanukkah and our Christian community is looking forward to celebrating Christmas.
