Brent redevelopment schemes win prestigious award

Two Brent redevelopment schemes were honoured in May 2018 at a prestigious property awards ceremony in central London. Kilburn Quarter and Wembley Park's Tipi Alto took the joint award for 'Development of the Year' at the 2018 Property Week RESI Awards.

Kilburn Quarter, a scheme which saw 229 homes built, of which 103 were made available for social rent, and the Quintain-owned Tipi Alto development in Wembley Park, which has seen 140 homes completed so far for rent, both scooped the prize on a night billed as "a true celebration of the very best the industry has to offer.”

Both schemes are part of major regeneration projects in Brent and the RESI Award is, for the south Kilburn regeneration programme in particular, the latest in a long-line of accolades.

Brent crowned London Borough of Culture 2020

Brent fought off stiff competition from 21 other London boroughs to scoop the title of Borough of Culture 2020. The prestigious award, announced in February 2018, will see Brent receive £1.35million to stage an ambitious year-long programme of cultural events and activities which will put culture at the heart of the borough’s future.

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “Congratulations to Brent on their visionary proposal to become London Borough of Culture in 2020. Brent’s bid stood out as it had young people at its heart – exploring what culture means to them in the 21st century.”

Cllr Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council, said: “With the eyes of the world already on Wembley for Euro 2020, becoming London Borough of Culture represents an amazing opportunity to celebrate the huge diversity of Brent and of our great city to a massive international audience.”
