We are reviewing Brent’s Statement of Principles under the Gambling Act 2005, which sets out our policy for dealing with applications and regulating gambling premises within the borough.
The draft revised Statement incorporates updates arising out of changes to the Gambling Commission Guidance and codes of practice to Licensing Authorities.
We will consider all views that you have on the document and gambling within the borough before finalising, however, you should note that the Gambling Act restricts the way in which gambling premises can be regulated by the council. We cannot consider matters relating to:
- Moral objections to gambling. Gambling is a lawful activity and objections cannot be considered on these grounds alone;
- Planning status of a premises. A gambling licence application must be considered independently of any requirement for planning consent;
- Demand. The fact that there may already be sufficient gambling premises within an area to meet existing demand cannot of itself be considered when considering a new licence application.
