We recently held our SEND Celebration week, this was an entire week dedicated to celebrating the achievements of Brent children and young people with SEND. There was a public art exhibition on display in the Civic Centre from Monday 26 to Friday 30 June, which showcased the many artistic talents of our children and young people.
Over 200 pieces were submitted through schools, colleges and the Brent Parent Carer Forum. This exhibition captured the attention of visitors throughout the week. Schools also visited the exhibition, throughout the week so students were able to see their work on display to the everyone and share their proud moment with their peers.
“It was so to see all the children’s achievements today including my daughter. Thank you for this event!” – Parent
On Thursday 29 June, we hosted the SEND celebration reception evening which was well attended by parent, carers and colleagues alike. We were joined by Deputy Mayor, Tariq Dar, NHS Borough Director, Jonathan Turner and Nigel Chapman, Corporate Director for Children and Young People who awarded certificates to students that were nominated by their schools.
“A wonderful celebration of our SEND children. It was so nice to see a mixed profile of SEND children/youth. Please continue this as an annual event” – Oakington Manor Staff
On the night we saw even more creative talent from Brent children, there were fantastic singing performances from the Manor School Choir and Indian drumming from Woodfield school as well as creative writing pieces displayed electronically and samples of music created by students. The night was a success which was well received by parents and carers.
