Local authorities must ensure there are sufficient good school places for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Brent has been given £2.89 million of funding from the government between 2018 and 2021 to create new school places and improve existing facilities for children and young people with SEND, in consultation with parents and providers.
This funding can be invested in mainstream schools and academies, special units, special schools, early years settings and further education colleges, or to make other provision for children and young people aged from 0 to 25.
We have published a short plan that sets out how we intend to invest our allocation. The plan will be developed and updated annually as new needs emerged.
Addendum (June 2021) Our Special Provision Capital Fund is combined with our High Needs Provision Capital Allocations (and plan) along with other funding opportunities that will maximise the specialist provision and support children educated and to be educated in Brent. Our updated and final plan detailing all capital spend over the next five years will be published in November 2021 after it has been consulted on and approved by Brent's Cabinet. Consultation on the updated and final plan, will run from mid-September to mid-October. Plans relating to individual scopes of work may also be subject to planning consent and may need to undergo specific or other consultations. We will continue to provide updates of our progress on this page. |
