Statement from the Mayor of Brent, Councillor Arshad Mahmood, on the Sri Lanka attacks

23 April 2019

Mayor of Brent, Councillor Arshad Mahmood, said

“My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the senseless and horrific crime that took place over Easter Weekend in Sri Lanka. This is a devastating loss of more than 300 lives and hundreds more people have been injured following the cowardly attacks at Churches and Hotels.

“There is no place for hate in 2019 and it is appalling that incidents like this are still taking place around the world.

“In Brent, one of the most diverse boroughs in the UK, we champion diversity. Acts like this can’t be allowed to spread fear and hate amongst our residents. We will stand together proudly and will stamp out any forms of hate.

“My heart goes out to the Sri Lankan communities in the borough and everyone affected by this horrendous incident.”
