Urgent shout out for ‘a clean act of kindness’ to help families

21 April 2020

We need soap, and we need it fast! That’s the message coming from families in dire need during the Covid-19 crisis.

Brent Council and local churches have teamed-up to launch an appeal for soap and other basic hygiene products to help stop the spread of the virus – but we need more help.

While getting food supplies out to families is a priority, many are struggling to afford basics such as soap and shower gel.

Donations will be packaged up and sent out with critical food supplies from the Bridge Park Community Leisure Centre, which was transformed over a couple of days into an emergency food distribution centre.

We need new, sealed, unopened soap in protective packaging to be donated by calling 07795 637193 or emailing: shirley.holmes@brent.gov.uk

Leader of the Council, Councillor Muhammed Butt, said: “Keeping clean at this crucial time will help slow down the spread of the virus.

“We’ve all been told to wash our hands for 20 seconds on a regular basis but for this to be effective we need soap.

“Any unopened items that you may have stocked-up on and perhaps don’t need would be gratefully received for these families.

The generosity of our community and the wider public is incredible and there is more we can all do to help. Imagine If you don’t have the budget for food? Where will you find the budget for soap, deodorant or other toiletries?

“Families with small children are also struggling to keep their children clean and safe with a lack of nappies and wipes, so we are pleading with you – please give generously, look through your cupboards or make an extra purchase or two with your shop."

Items urgently needed for families (No old, damaged or used products and no food).
