Death of a former Brent Councillor
21 December 2020
It is with sadness that we confirm former Brent Councillor Lawrie Nerva passed away last weekend.
Lawrie was a Brent Councillor from 1978 to 1986 and he helped found the Brent Council for Community Relations with the late Reg Freeson.
In addition to serving as a Councillor, Lawrie was also a chair of the Brent North Labour Party, Chair of Social Services at Brent Council as well as a member of the Brent Health Authority.
A Brent resident and Labour Party campaigner for over 50 years, Lawrie was given a Merit Award by the Labour Party in 2012 and his autobiography, 'A Campaigning Life' was published earlier this year.
Lawrie’s son Neil continues his father’s legacy of public service to Brent residents to this day, as the Cabinet Member for Public Health, Culture & Leisure.
Mayor of Brent, Cllr Ernest Ezeajughi said: “My thoughts are with Lawrie’s family and friends at this heart-breaking time.”
