Borough Plan sets out vision for Brent’s future

26 February 2019

An ambitious plan to make Brent the best possible place to live has been agreed by Full Council yesterday (25 February).

The new Borough Plan is the council’s commitment to making a real difference to the lives of local people based on a number of key priorities.

The vision between now up to 2023 is called ‘Building a Better Brent’, focusing on five strategic themes that will make the borough a place that is better, stronger, safer and cleaner.

There is an emphasis on culture, and making sure that the opportunities in Brent are shared fairly among communities. It also focuses on innovation and working more effectively with partners, as ways to make the most of diminishing resources.

Councillor Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council, said:

“Brent is ever changing and growing and the Borough Plan is about making sure our borough is an even better place now and in the future. Achieving our vision will require us to focus on the things that matter most and where we can make a real difference to the lives of local people.

“But the Plan is only the beginning. There are tough times ahead, especially when approximately £40m of savings will be necessary to deliver the plan. We need to work creatively with our partners and communities in every corner of Brent, so that we can make the Borough Plan priorities a reality.

“Only by working together can we build a better Brent – a borough in which every resident has every opportunity to succeed.”

The five overarching themes in the Borough Plan are:

  • Every opportunity to succeed
  •  A future built for everyone, an economy fit for all
  • A cleaner, more considerate Brent
  • A borough where we can all feel safe, secure, happy and healthy
  • Strong foundations
