Food voucher for parents of children eligible for Free School Meals

Over 10,000 young Children and Young People have been supported in the form of food and utility bill vouchers this winter period using funding from the Council’s allocation from the Government’s COVID Winter Grant Scheme.
Parents of children eligible for Free School Meals and other families who require extra support will benefit from food vouchers this half term. Eligible households will also receive Post Office Pay Out vouchers to support energy and water bill costs. This payment recognises the additional financial burdens some families are experiencing due to the latest lockdown and the move to remote at-home education for many pupils.
Parents who will receive this support are being contacted through their child’s school.
Cllr Thomas Stephens, Cabinet Member for Member for Education, Business, Employment and Skills said:
“Once again during the February half term, Brent Council has made the decision to provide food vouchers to pupils eligible for Free School meals. We feel it is essential that we step up locally to support for our most vulnerable during this crisis.
“No child should go hungry this half term, and these vouchers will provide a vital lifeline to children faced with poverty. I would encourage all families facing hardship to access this support, and to reach out to Brent Council if you are in need of any further assistance.”
