Help us take on unsightly litter - join The Great British Spring Clean

27 January 2020

The Great British Spring Clean is back in Brent and this year it’s bigger than ever.

Help spruce up your local streets and parks by joining a Community Clean-up, or organising one of your own.

Together with our waste collection partner, Veolia, we’re supplying all #LitterHeroes across Brent with the tools they need to make their neighbourhood cleaner and greener.

We’ll give you the gloves, litter pickers and bags you need and we will clear away the rubbish afterwards. For more information, contact: recyclemore@brent.gov.uk

Last year over 560,000 people across the UK took part in the Keep Britain Tidy campaign and picked up enough litter to fill 239,344 wheelie bins.

The annual event is run in partnership with local resident groups and Keep Britain Tidy, with support from Brent Council and Veolia.

Our Neighbourhood Managers organise a rolling programme of Community Clean-ups, in partnership with local resident groups and Veolia. Attendees can take part in a litter pick and make use of the Community Skip, throwing away up to five bulky items.

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Lead Member for Environment, said: “We need your help to take on unsightly litter and illegal rubbish dumps. Community Clean-ups are a great way to show your area some love. With enough of us, these events can be fun as well as functional – bring your kids, bring your parents, and together let’s make Brent cleaner and greener.”

Recycling Fund for Communities

Do you have an idea which inspires people to do the right thing with their waste, uses recycled or reclaimed materials, or enhances the local environment? You can apply for support and funding through Veolia’s Recycling Fund for Communities.

Your project could receive a cash boost, extra resources or volunteers to help get it off the ground. Up to £1000 of funding is available through the Fund, which is doubled to £2000 if your project has a positive impact on plastic waste. Across London the Fund has supported such creative initiatives as community gardens, reclaimed furniture projects, bicycle repair workshops and a reusable lunch box scheme to cut plastic waste.
