Always be gas safe - company fined £2000

9 July 2014

Mr Rajveer Goraya, trading as Taj Construction, was fined £2000 for failing to exercise professional diligence in the installation of a gas boiler in a Harrow resident's home.

Mr Goraya had subcontracted the gas installation work out to a person who was not Gas Safe registered. He admitted to making no checks as to the gas fitters qualifications or Gas Safe registration.

A subsequent report by a Gas Safe Inspector found that the fitter had used a water isolation valve, commonly used on washing machines, to act as the gas stop valve. This part of the installation was categorised as 'IMMEDIATELY DANGEROUS' by the Gas Safe inspector.
