Apprenticeship programme closes for applications on Sunday 27 July

If you are aged 24 or under, and looking for an exciting role where you will earn as well as study and gain skills, then there are only a few days left to apply for an apprenticeship with us.

The closing date for applications for roles which include business administration, customer service and IT is Sunday, 27 July, 2014.

Shakira Moses, 23, is already working as an apprentice with us and recommends it. She is part of the adult social care team and is based at Tudor Gardens care home.

Part of her role involves organising activities, such as regular trips to the ten-pin bowling alley, for six adults with physical disabilities, learning difficulties and mental health issues.

Shakira said: "Every day in this job is different. We organise a wide range of fun activities for our care users. My job is to support them, make their lives as comfortable as possible and, most importantly, help them gain a sense of independence.

"The best thing about my job is making the care users smile and grow in confidence day by day."

Her year-long apprenticeship will also help her gain a valuable qualification, as it counts towards her Level 2 National Vocational Qualification in health and social care. Plus, with a competitive salary on top, she is able to get paid for learning new skills and gaining practical experience.

She said: "This apprenticeship is just brilliant for me. I'm getting practical experience, learning lots and also getting paid. It gives me independence and freedom and means I can pay my rent too."

Helping the borough's economy grow and supporting local people to find work is a priority for the council and apprenticeship schemes are a key part of that.

We can also put local people in touch with some of the many other apprenticeship opportunities available locally, which can be found in a range of businesses covering everything from advertising to business administration.

We also want to hear from local businesses with less than 250 employees which are keen to grow, and want to support young people into jobs.
