‘Perceptions’ - a groundbreaking new film showcasing Brent talent

21 July 2014

'Perceptions' by Samuell Benta, was filmed on St. Raphael's Estate and will have its UK premiere on Wednesday 23 July 2014 at the Brent Civic Centre between 3pm to 5pm.

The film was commissioned jointly by Brent Housing Partnership (BHP) and Wates Living Space with the support of Wates Giving, to tackle important themes such as removing the stigma associated with social housing and changing perceptions of Brent and the young people who live here.

These themes were selected as they are core to BHP's overall vision and values and therefore central to the projects being delivered by Wates with BHP over the next decade.

The film is about a group of talented young people from St. Raphael's Estate who join forces to host a poetry slam in their community and as a result break down barriers and bring people together.

'Perceptions' is written and directed by local resident Samuell Bentawho has also directed the award winning series 'All About the McKenzies,' currently showing on London Live TV.

Benta will be at the premiere to talk about his inspiration for the film and the making of it. View the trailer for 'Perceptions'.

There will be additional entertainment from Brent based street dance group, First Impressions. The dancers, all between the ages of eight to 15 have also qualified to participate in a UK dance championship called Street Dance XXL which will be held in Wembley Arena in September.
