Getting your hands on a new (or nearly new) e-bike just got easier. Brent Council has teamed up with Peddle My Wheels to add electric bicycles to the Try Before You Bike scheme, which helps people to try cycling and spread the cost of purchasing equipment.

Try Before You Bike allows you to try out a bicycle for a month, which you can later buy at a reduced price. Previously, the offer covered standard pedal bikes. To encourage more people to take up cycling as lockdown eases, that’s now been extended to include e-bikes.

Monthly prices are as follows:

  • £10 for kids bikes
  • £20 for adult bikes
  • £50 for electric bikes

After the trial month, those who choose to buy their bike can take advantage of interest free 12-month payment plans or discounts. The trial month fee will be taken off the final price.

There’s no deposit and free delivery and collection is included. All bikes are delivered ready to ride with lights, lock and helmet.

Cllr Shama Tatler, Lead Member for Regeneration, Property & Planning, said: “For those who are looking for an alternative to public transport or their car, cycling is a great way to get where you’re going while getting fitter. Not to mention the environmental benefits. We’re committed to investing in green, active transport and I’m thrilled we’re able to expand the Try Before You Bike scheme to make e-bikes more affordable for everyone.”

In June, Brent Council announced a new plan to boost active travel in the borough and continues to encourage residents to nominate locations for walking and cycling improvements.
