Back to Business: £2.6m more for COVID-hit traders

24 June 2021

A new grant, launched by Brent Council, will help businesses that have been impacted by COVID-19 but have not been supported by the Government’s Restart Grant or the Local Restrictions Support Grant. The available pot amounts to more than £2.66m.

“With restrictions easing, Brent is once again the place to do business,” said Cllr Shama Tatler, the Council’s Lead Member for Regeneration, Property & Planning. “But we know it will take many businesses a long time to balance the books. From webinars to grants, apprenticeships to the support businesses receive from Brent Council’s Town Centre Managers, we’re doing all we can to help them survive and thrive.”

Cllr Thomas Stephens, Lead Member for Schools, Employment and Skills, added, “A thriving economy brings more jobs, which is why it’s so important that we’re helping businesses back on their feet. This grant is designed to plug gaps we spotted in the financial support net and help those who missed out on previous pots of money. If you think your business is eligible, please apply.”

The Back to Business grant has three tiers (£1k, £3k, £6k). To be eligible, a business must:

  • have been impacted by COVID-19
  • have not received the Local Restrictions Support Grant or the Restart Grant
  • be trading in Brent
  • not have a rateable value over £51,000 or annual commercial rent over £102,000
  • either operate from home or from a commercial premises (including shared workspaces)

Applications for the Back to Business Grant are now open and the deadline is 14 July 2021. Grants will be awarded on a first come first serve basis.
