Community support ‘gateway’ opens
28 November 2019
Older or disabled people who need help accessing community activities or advocacy, and carers who need support, will now be able to access support from various locations across Brent when the Brent Gateway Partnership launches on the 2 December 2019.
Providing Care Act Advocacy; Mental Health Act Advocacy; Mental Capacity Act Advocacy; Carers support services and Social Isolation Prevention, the new ‘Gateway to Support Services’ will provide a more joined up service by enabling users to have a single point of access to a range of services.
The way individuals access the services will not change, they can still be referred by a professional or they can access the services independently for example, but the new model means users will only need to speak to one provider who will assess their needs.
Brent Gateway Partnership is a new partnership led by Age UK Brent, Harrow and Hillingdon with support from Harrow Mencap and Capable Communities.
Phil Porter, Strategic Director of Community Wellbeing said: “The new contract provided by Gateway will ensure that we are able to enhance the levels of service we currently offer. It will also reduce the barriers that some of our most vulnerable users face when accessing vital services.
“These services will be locally focused, delivered from hubs across the borough and directly connected to the local communities.”
CEO of Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent Julian Lloyd said: “We are thrilled to be leading on this innovative new service. Along with our partners Harrow Mencap and Capable Communities, we have a breadth of expertise that will ensure the new Gateway Services becomes an invaluable resource to the residents of Brent.”
On Friday the 6 December 2019, new and existing users of the service will be able to find out more about the new providers and how the service will run at an event held in Willesden Green Library from 10am. Keep an eye on the @Brent_Council social media page for more information.
