Brent Junior Citizenship Scheme goes digital

11 November 2020

This month, the Junior Citizenship scheme for Year 6 children will be going digital.

Every year, agencies working with young people come together through the scheme to introduce Brent school children to crucial life skills at this essential stage in their development.

Due to the  COVID-19 pandemic, this year the scheme is going digital, bringing advice and skills directly to the classroom.

Brent Council is working alongside partner agencies including TFL, The Metropolitan Police and the London Fire Brigade, and have developed videos featuring useful advice and tips, to help children and their parents make the smooth transition from primary to secondary school.

The videos also address some of the challenges young people may face in the future, encouraging them to live safe and healthy lifestyles and how to react in sometimes difficult situations, helping them to build resilience and confidence.

Topics include:

  • 5+1 ways to wellbeing
  • Offensive weapons
  • Healthy eating
  • TfL bus and tube scenario
  • Cigarettes and alcohol awareness
  • Road safety
  • Fire prevention, detection, escape

The scheme runs throughout November
