Small Business Saturday Award Winners Announced

2020 has been an extremely challenging year for Brent businesses, nevertheless a fantastic 79 businesses entered this year’s Small Business Saturday Awards.

Brent businesses have continued to show resilience by adapting delivery methods, product offer and supporting community groups.

Cllr Shama Tatler, Brent Council’s Lead Member for Regeneration, Property & Planning, said:

“It was particularly heart-warming to hear from businesses who have truly gone above and beyond to support our residents, which is a testament to the true community spirit we have in Brent. Applications were of such a high standard, making it even more difficult to choose the winners. So congratulations and thank you to all who took part.”

A local coffee shop based in Willesden Green, XOXO Coffee won Best Business Interior for their imaginative and highly instagrammable cafe interior. The coffee shop has beautiful floral garlands, creative displays and swinging seats. Why not pop in for a cup of coffee and a cake?

Based in North Wembley, Funeral Print Service go above and beyond to support families during the most difficult of times. They ensure that everything is delivered with empathy, accuracy and attention to detail – without exception.



Best Contribution to the Community - Through the Looking GlassPhoto of through the looking glass

Through The Looking Glass hair salon was founded in Sudbury in 1976. Owner Christine has created a real community focus, by fundraising for many charities, supporting the local Residents Association and various community groups.

La Bottega di Anna is an Italian deli and restaurant based in Willesden Green. The shop front is regularly decorated and updated for each season. If you're passing, check out their Christmas display!




Most Adaptive Business Response to COVID-19 - Liquid BubblePhoto of Liquid Bubble

When faced with a 50% loss due to lockdown, Liquid Bubble showed real resilience by adapting their product. Liquid Bubble used existing machinery to manufacture protective screens for businesses to ensure they were COVID-secure. They also set up a brand new ecommerce website within one week, in order to sell screens online and reach a wider audience.

Back in 2016, Babla's Jewellers undertook some basic digital training with Brent Council. They now have a fantastic ecommerce site, that has enabled them to continue trading throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and maintain a competitive edge.

Shambhu’s is an exclusively plant-based/vegan food business based in Brent, and has been providing a plant-based catering service, as well as plant-based cuisine cookery classes since its launch in 2005. Owner Nishma Shah promotes a shift towards greater plant-based eating to address many environmental issues facing us today.
