Get your COVID-19 jab to save Christmas

24 November 2021

With Christmas Eve a month today, Brent residents are being urged to take the opportunity to get their COVID jab at health centres, pharmacies and even libraries and supermarkets as part of a concerted push to make sure we all get to enjoy the festivities as much as possible.

In a combined effort from local NHS services and Brent Council, more pop-up vaccine centres will be opening, many existing sites will operate longer hours and the vaccine bus will be out and about on the streets of the borough.

Sainsbury’s in Willesden, the Central Mosque of Brent and Wembley Library are all being used to make as many venues as possible open to people to get their jab. The push will be kicked off with a ‘big weekend’ of activity all designed to save Christmas.

Cllr Neil Nerva, Brent’s Cabinet Member for Public Health, Culture and Leisure, said, “We have all seen what is happening in other European countries with the virus, and the lockdown measures that are again having to be imposed. We want to do all we can to avoid having to face similar restrictions.”

Dr M. C. Patel, Chair of Brent CCG, said, “The best way to ensure stricter measures are not introduced is to get as many people vaccinated as possible. I am asking anyone who hasn’t been fully vaccinated to get jabbed ASAP – preferably this week or weekend. While many of us have had our jabs, we still have far too many people in Brent who are unvaccinated.”

Last week it was announced that as many as 2.7 million Londoners over the age of 16 may not have even had their first COVID jab yet. It was also revealed that Brent is one of the areas in London where the problem is concentrated, with nine boroughs accounting for 45 per cent of the unvaccinated population in the capital.
