Wembley High Road festive lights were switched on by Ledley King, Francis Henry, The Mayor and other councillors. St Michael & all angels Steel Orchestra played music and encouraged a countdown to the switch on.
The lights are jointly sponsored by Tottenham Hotspur and Wembley Futures and will be on throughout the festive period to give visitors and residents a great display during the dark evenings.
Over 6,000 LED low energy efficient bulbs were used in the features and wrap around lights to create an amazing display.
Ledley King, Tottenham Hotspur Ambassador, said: “We are delighted to be a proud sponsor of this year’s Festive Lights in Wembley. Since we’ve been playing our home matches at Wembley Stadium, we feel like such an integral part of this community and seeing the High Road lit up for Diwali and Christmas is something that local people always look forward to, so it’s great to be involved.”
“Francis Henry, Chair of Wembley Futures said, “We are proud to have helped bring festive lights back to Wembley Central. It is something residents had requested at the start of the Big Local Lottery-funded Wembley Central project”
In addition many people at the Switch On also backed Brent’s bid to become London Borough of Culture 2020. The winning borough will receive an investment to develop a year-long programme of activities that will celebrate the creativity of local communities.
