Inspiring action: Introducing the Brent Climate Festival 2021

25 October 2021

Together, we can make a difference. Brent’s answer to the Glasgow Climate Conference (COP26) will serve up food for thought and inspiring ideas for action.

Over two weeks (1-12 November) the Brent Climate Festival offers an exciting programme of activities and a rallying cry to act now to protect our planet.

From today, we are launching the Together Towards Zero climate pledge. Residents can visit the pledge website and commit to making one change, big or small, to reduce their carbon footprint. Whether it’s the way you travel, or buying second-hand clothes rather than new, together, these individual climate actions will add up to something bigger and get us closer to the goal of becoming a carbon zero borough by 2030.

Community and culture is at the heart of the programme – from the residents who contributed family recipes to From Brent To Bowl: a community cookbook to the religious leaders from Brent’s mosques, churches and temples who shared how they are thinking about climate change and their faith for a photo series.

The festival is a local reflection of the COP26 global climate conference which is taking place in Glasgow over the same time period. Cllr Muhammed Butt recently joined local leaders across the UK in signing the UK100 Net Zero Pledge on behalf of Brent Council.

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Environment said: “Sadly, there is no escaping climate change. Climate change affects every single one of us, and we need to make changes as a community, which will have an impact globally.

“The good news is that making changes has its upside, and even small changes can benefit your pocket, health and wellbeing. We hope that COP26 is a success, and that global leaders make decisions that benefit us all. We certainly are doing our part to make a difference at a local level, and are one hundred per cent committed to reaching our goal of zero carbon emissions by 2030. We hope you can join some of the many events that are taking place, and please take a pledge for climate change to make a positive change for you and your loved ones.”
