£5000 available to help voluntary groups in Brent

23 September 2016

Voluntary sector organisations and community groups in Brent are being encouraged to apply now for a grant of up to £5000.

These grants, offered by the Edward Harvist Trust Fund, will be awarded to local organisations to assist with one-off costs such as furniture, equipment and outings, and costs relating to one-off events that will benefit residents in the borough.

Cllr Margaret McLennan, Deputy Leader of Brent Council, said:

"The Edward Harvist Trust Fund grant represents a great opportunity for the voluntary sector in Brent, who make such a difference to the lives of residents in the borough.

"It is a pot of money that could make a significant difference to an organisation. I would encourage as many groups, who meet the criteria, to apply and make the most of this opportunity. At a time when Council budgets are massively squeezed, this independent pot of money represents a rare gem for voluntary organisations and community groups."

Grants are available for voluntary organisations that provide the majority of their services to the residents of Brent; each organisation must have an established management committee, or be registered as a charity, in order to apply. Private individuals or trading companies cannot apply for the funding.

Neil White, Chief Executive of the Sudbury Neighbourhood Centre, a former recipient of Edward Harvist Funding, said:

"I am delighted with the generous grant award from the Edward Harvist Trust that has enabled us to provide much needed support to vulnerable older adults in our community.

"We are very grateful for the funds which have enabled us to purchase new ICT equipment for our computer suite, as well as support for our day trips to the seaside."

If you feel your organisation will benefit from this grant, please download application details from our website at https://www.brent.gov.uk/your-community/voluntary-sector-advice/.

Projects must take place between April 2017 and March 2018. Successful applicants will be notified by mid-February 2017 and funding must be spent by 15 March 2018.

Closing date for applications is 4 November 2016.
