Tackling social isolation in Brent

14 December 2016

Maggie* is a 71 year old woman that lives alone in her flat. She was never married and up until two and a half years ago was very active within the community.

One early evening while going home from her church, she was mugged. As a result of this she sustained a dislocated shoulder and nasty bruises on her right side from falling. She was in hospital for a long time with different complications.

From that point on Maggie became scared to leave her home and became increasingly isolated. Her neighbour did her shopping for her because she can no longer carry heavy items. Her neighbour approached the SIBI project for assistance.

Now Maggie attends one of the SIBI project activities where she meets other people and is now getting her confidence back.
