Councillor Mili Patel has been appointed as Brent Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People. The change follows the departure of Cllr Wilhelmina Mitchell Murray who asked to stand down for personal reasons.
The announcement was made at Brent's Council meeting on Monday 23 January 2017 by Leader of the Council, Cllr Muhammed Butt, who said:
"I would like to thank Cllr Mitchell Murray for her service and know that Cllr Patel will make a great addition to Cabinet."
Councillor Patel, who has represented Alperton ward since 2014, said:
"I'm hugely honoured to have been invited to take on this role. As a local girl, I know that Brent can be a great place to grow up, and my priority will be to ensure that every young person in Brent gets the best start in life and they are provided with all of the tools they need to fulfil their potential. I can't wait to get started."
Cllr Mili Patel was born and raised in Brent and attended local schools including Furness and Claremont. She works for a charity providing care for disabled people across the UK and abroad. Previously she worked as a researcher in Westminster including for a former Secretary of State for Health.
