Signed, sealed, delivered: Brent submits London Borough of Culture bid

1 December 2017

Excitement was in the air today as the button was pushed on Brent's bid for London Borough of Culture 2020.

The competition will now be judged by a panel of experts with the winning boroughs for 2019 and 2020 expected to be announced in February 2018.

Over £1m of funding will be awarded to each successful borough to put together a programme of cultural events.

Since Brent joined the running for London Borough of Culture, we've seen spectacular London Mela and Fireworks celebrations, a sprinkling of celebrity stardust from Riz Ahmed and Raheem Sterling, and the debut of our much praised 'This is Brent' video.

Thousands of you pledged your support for our bid on the Brent Culture website and hundreds more tweeted, Instagrammed and sent us your ideas and comments on what you love about Brent.

Cllr Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council, said:

"A huge thank you to everyone who got involved and backed our bid - we've been overwhelmed by all the support. I'm incredibly proud of what we've all put into this and can't wait to share all the details of what we've got planned.

"There is so much potential in this borough and that's why we will be making sure young people are at the heart of our bid if we win.

"Brent is home to London's most diverse mix of cultures and our bid will shine a light on all our different communities. And in the year that the 2020 Euros come to Wembley, it will also be a chance to show off our home on a global stage."

Over the coming weeks, we will be revealing more details of our bid. Keep checking our website for all the latest updates www.brentculture2020.co.uk
