Legal action slams the door on illegal shisha café in Brent
22 March 2018
An illegal shisha venue in Brent has been forced to close down following reports of anti-social behaviour and illegal activity.
The Ice Café, on Neasden Lane, was issued with a Nuisance Premises Closure Order at Brent Magistrates Court on 8th March, and ordered to close its doors and shut down the business for the next three months.
This came after a number of nearby residents complained of noise nuisance and anti-social behaviour stemming from the venue, causing concern and misery in the local community. On further investigation, the venue was also found to be operating illegally as an unlicensed shisha venue.
Cllr Tom Miller, Lead Member for Stronger Communities, commented:
"This is another good result but it's a shame we had to take this action in the first place. We don't like having to issue closure orders on businesses in Brent but if they continue to break the law and cause misery for our residents then we will take strong action.
"We are putting the safety and wellbeing of our residents first and our message is clear: we will not tolerate illegally operating shisha cafés, or any venues in general that cause antisocial behaviour. Anyone found to be doing so will face prosecution and run the likely risk of being shut down."
