Crackdown on Blue Badge fraudsters
11 June 2018
Six Penalty Charges Notices were issued against vehicles for illegally displaying a Blue Badge during last week's operation to clamp down on Blue Badge fraud in Brent.
Officers from the Counter Fraud team joined forces with parking enforcement officers and the Police in the operation which took place on Kingsbury Road on 7th June.
During the joint operation, 62 Blue Badges were checked. Officers seized five fraudulent uses badges with an additional badge being seized after a vehicle was towed.
Cllr Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member responsible for parking, praised the joint operation and commented:
"This successful operation is our warning to fraudsters: we will do everything we can to protect the quality of life for our disabled and vulnerable residents. We will continue to clamp down on and, where evidence permits, prosecute those caught abusing the Blue Badge scheme."
Blue Badges help many disabled people take part in the local community. Every time a Blue Badge is illegally used, that parking space is taken away from a disabled person who genuinely needs it.
