New £28 million leisure centre opens in Brent

2 July 2018

Families in Brent can now take advantage of the fabulous state-of-the art Moberly Sports Centre after its official opening this weekend.

Although the new centre has been developed by Westminster Council, it is located just inside Brent. But thanks to a deal struck at the planning stage, people in Brent will be able to claim discounts for activities by signing up to the B.Active card

Taking two and a half years to complete, the centre features two swimming pools, a huge sports hall with seating for 500 people, a fully equipped gym, dance and exercise studios, a café and crèche.

It was opened by super-middleweight boxing champion James DeGale, light welterweight champion and local boxing star Ashley Theophane and double gold Olympic gymnast Max Whitlock.

Residents from Brent who possess a B.Active leisure card will get a discount of 25% when using the centre, with holders of a concession card getting a 40% discount.

Cllr Krupesh Hirani, Cabinet Member for Public Health, Culture and Leisure, said:

"This development is a great example of two councils working together for the benefit of their respective residents, and it's a particularly good deal for people in our borough. The new centre is on our land, but because of an agreement reached at the planning stage with Westminster Council, we have been able to ensure families in our borough get full access."

"It's a really exciting development for Brent and has the potential to transform the leisure and fitness experience of the whole community."

Moberly Sports Centre is on Chamberlayne Road, Queens Park, and is open 7 days a week. Brent residents who require a B.Active card should contact the centre directly.
