Council cuts CO2 emissions and sets new ambitious target
19 December 2018
The closure of staff office buildings over the past four years has led to huge CO2 emissions saving for the council.
Using official government variable kWh->CO2 factors, data also shows that emissions reduced by 37.4% from 2010/11 to 2017/18. This puts them ahead of voluntary targets newly introduced by the Government in their Clean Growth Strategy.
Further emissions savings are expected to come from solar panel PV installations, LED street light upgrades and wider estate energy efficiency improvements.
Cllr Krupa Sheth, Lead Member for Environment, said: "This puts Brent in a great position and shows our commitment to doing what we can to help reduce global CO2 emissions and climate change."
"We will not be complacent. We have set ourselves an ambitious target to reach emission reductions of 60 per cent by 2021 and this is a great step forward on that journey."
