Mayor to raise rainbow flag in honour of LGBT+ History Month
15 February 2019
The Mayor of Brent will join members of the community to celebrate diversity, inclusion and tolerance at a flag raising ceremony on 19 February 2019. He will raise the rainbow flag in honour of LGBT+ History Month.
LGBT+ History Month takes place in February each year. It provides an opportunity to recognise the achievements of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, and to raise awareness of matters affecting the LGBT+ community. This year's theme is Peace, Activism and Reconciliation.
The ceremony, to be held in the Paul Daisley gardens next to Brent Civic Centre, will include talks highlighting issues affecting the LGBT+ community.
Cllr Arshad Mahmood, Mayor of Brent, said: "It is an honour to be asked to raise the rainbow flag. In Brent, we pride ourselves on celebrating diversity and inclusion. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people make an important contribution to our community. By raising awareness of LGBT+ experiences and celebrating their achievements, I believe it's a step in the right direction to combat certain prejudices still experienced."
The LGBT+ History Month Flag Raising ceremony is open to all to attend. It will be held on Tuesday 19 February 2019, 2-3pm in the Paul Daisley gardens outside Brent Civic Centre.
