Residents encouraged to celebrate diversity and community in honour of Jo Cox

20 May 2019

From today, resident groups and community organisations can apply for grants of up to £500 to host their own Great Get Together event. The funding is designed to help neighbours to come together over lunch, picnics, barbeques or coffee.

The Great Get Together was inspired by the murdered MP Jo Cox who lived her life spreading her belief that we have more in common than divides us. This year it will take place on 21-23 June 2019, the weekend that would have been Jo's 45th birthday.

Last year, Brent Council helped over 75 local groups to 'get together', and the hope is that even more residents will get involved this year.

Cllr Krupa Sheth, Lead Member for Environment, said: "Brent is a melting pot of personalities and cultures, all thriving alongside each other - and we wouldn't have it any other way. The Great Get Together is the perfect opportunity to celebrate kindness, respect and all that we have in common. I'm looking forward to seeing how the community put these grants to good use again this year."
