Showcasing the best young people in the borough

30 July 2019

Inspirational, passionate and dedicated young people were celebrated at the inaugural Pride of Brent Youth Awards which took place in the Grand Hall last week.

The new awards recognised some of the brilliant young people who are working hard to help make a difference in their communities. All the winners were invited to collect their awards at the ceremony on Saturday 20 July where they were treated to an inspirational speech by Brent's very own "Chaser", TV star Shaun Wallace, enjoyed a dance performed by local group Impact Dance and listened to the stunning vocal talents of Aysha Loren.

The winners and highly commended young people include a group who are working to make their local area safer, a sportsman who uses his experience to support and contribute to activities for children and young people in care and a young leader who inspires other young girls to get involved in sport and politics. Brent Council worked with local community groups Love Chalkhill and the Jason Roberts Foundation for the ceremony.

Cllr Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council, said: "It was amazing being able to award so many of the young people in Brent and recognise their achievements. There are lots of children and teenagers working hard to help improve their local area, inspire other people to do better and who are generally making Brent a better place to live, study and play in.

"These young people are the future of the borough and the more we can do to encourage and support them, the brighter that future will be."

The Directors of Love Chalkhill Festival CIC Cecilia Marquis and Janet Wishart said: "We were delighted to have partnered with Brent Council to organise its first Pride of Brent Youth Awards Ceremony. We see great young people in the borough all the time and we are glad they have been recognised for their contribution to the community in this way."
