New Assistant Chief Executive appointed at Brent Council
26 September 2019
A new Assistant Chief Executive has been appointed at Brent Council following a member led interview panel.
Shazia Hussain, currently at Tower Hamlets Council, was appointed by the all-party panel in September and is due to formally join Brent from January 2020.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, Carolyn Downs, Shazia will be responsible for ensuring that the strategic direction of the council is well defined and reflected in effective policy, planning and delivery. Reporting to her will be the Head of Strategy and Partnerships, Head of Communications and Head of Executive and Member Services.
Shazia was previously at Tower Hamlets Council for fifteen years where she held a number of Director level roles responsible for Customer Services, Strategic Partnerships and Culture, Learning & Leisure.
Shazia (pictured) said: “I am really excited about joining Brent. The council has set out a bold plan to build a better Brent in its Borough Plan and I am looking forward to working with the senior management team, elected members and council colleagues to deliver on those ambitions.
“Two of my priorities will be to ensure that we enable residents and communities to be active participants in decision making and that we are able to support local communities and the voluntary sector to access funding and generate income to deliver local projects.”
