Playtime on Brent street for London Car Free Day
13 September 2021
Cars will be parked up for the day as a Kilburn street transforms into a playground for London Car free Day on Saturday 18 September.
Residents are also being invited to ditch their four wheels and take up alternative greener means of travel, and reflect on reducing reliance on cars to improve air quality for everyone.
To celebrate London Car Free Day, we will be joining forces with community groups to promote the virtues of going car-free. The community will have the chance to enjoy a variety of stalls and activities including free smoothies, games, and cycle repairs.
Residents are also getting involved by hosting Play Streets across the borough to celebrate World Car Free Day over the coming months.
Cllr Krupa Sheth, Lead Member for Environment, said: "Car Free Day is a chance to remind ourselves of the damage excess car use can cause to the environment and our wellbeing. It is also an opportunity to explore alternative green ways of travel that can be cheaper and better for our health. I hope you can join us in celebrating on Saturday 18 September, where you can have some fun, pick up some great tips to green-up your life, and help us reach zero carbon emission in Brent by 2030.”
This event is part of a number of initiatives we are running to improve air quality in the borough. We have successfully launched cargo bike pilots with businesses in Harlesden, introduced green screens in schools, launched 30 school streets, helped residents organise Play Streets, run events for Bike Week and much more.
Why not pledge to go car free for London Car Free Day as well?
Event information: Brent Council will be closing Priory Park Road (off Kilburn High Road) to road traffic from 8am – 6pm on Saturday 18 September, with an event running from 11am – 3pm.
