From vacant warehouses to sustainable new homes, Brent Council has given the green light to a new development that will see 759 new homes built in the Wembley Growth Area. More than a quarter (218) will be affordable homes. Amid a housing crisis in the capital the new development will make an important contribution towards meeting housing needs.
The plans were approved at the council’s Planning Committee on 24 November 2021, subject to GLA sign off and a legal agreement. Five buildings ranging from 12-24 storeys, will replace the vacant warehouse ‘Euro House’ in Fulton Road. The new, sustainable development will bring new open spaces, and will complement the surrounding environment and ‘look and feel’ of Wembley Park.
In addition to housing, it will open up a huge range of opportunities for the local community, with a training academy launching on-site during the construction phase and 3,000 sqm of resulting business and retail spaces expected to create more than 200 jobs.
Councillor Shama Tatler, Lead Member for Regeneration, Property & Planning, said:
“This development will not only benefit the new occupiers, but also existing neighbours. New community facilities and green spaces are just as important to us as facilitating new homes, through this development we are delighted to be able to open up the existing site to the public and provide access to new open spaces and the Wealdston Brook river.
“We have made a commitment to increase affordable housing in the borough by 5,000 over the coming years. 1,700 of these will be new council homes, and the rest, London affordable rent and shared ownership for example, will be made up from private investment and enterprises like this one.
“We are glad to grant planning permission and look forward to seeing the first spade in the ground at this development.”
