Celebrating those championing arts within their communities, Brent’s Zerritha Brown was awarded ‘Best Arts Champion – Local Authority or Cultural Trust Worker’ in The Hearts For The Arts Awards 2022.

Judged by a panel of high profile professionals in Arts, Business and Journalism, the annual awards recognise the UK’s unsung local authority arts heroes.

With over a decade of commitment to the arts, Zerritha’s passion for incorporating arts in her community work began after leading Brent’s Cultural Olympiad programme. After this, she worked as Senior Producer and is now the Manager of Brent 2020 Legacy.

Brown’s work has always been rooted in community engagement, supporting local grass roots artists, and putting audiences at the heart of artistic programming. Thanks to this, many celebrated her well-deserved win.

“

Zerritha has a unique gift of putting communities at the heart of her work."

"No Bass Like Home sounds like a truly beautiful project drawing upon Brent’s rich heritage. Championing the black community at such a time has created a sense of pride by telling untold stories through music to a wider audience."

"Zerritha ensures that arts are visible across the entire organisation.

”
Andy Dawson,
Local Authority or Cultural Trust Worker

Councillor Neil Nerva said,

“

Zerritha has worked tirelessly to use the arts to create meaningful change for a variety of communities across the borough for many years."

"I am delighted to see her celebrated for the excellent work she has produced as well as her undeniable passion to use the arts as a vehicle for positive change

”
Cllr Neil Nerva,
Brent Council’s Lead Member for Public Health, Culture

The awards were presented by Samuel West and selected guest judges at The Hearts For The Arts Digital Awards ceremony hosted by the Local Government Association on Monday, 7 March 2022.
