Notice is given that the unaudited statement of accounts for the year ended 31 March 2023 has been published on the Council’s website at www.brent.gov.uk/your-council/transparency-in-brent/performance-and-spending/budgets-and-finance/how-we-spend-your-money. The Council’s accounts are unaudited and may be subject to change by the external auditor, Grant Thornton, 30 Finsbury Square, London. EC2A 1AG. Members of the public and local government electors have certain rights in the audit process.
From 12 July 2023 to 23 August 2023 between 9.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. Monday to Fridays, any person interested may on reasonable notice inspect and make copies of the accounts of the Council for the year ended 31 March 2023 and certain related documents (comprising books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers and receipts) at the address given below. Prior to any inspection please contact Ben Ainsworth, email address benjamin.ainsworth@brent.gov.uk Tel 020 8937 1731.From 12 July 2023 to 23 August 2023 a local government elector for the area of the Council, or his/her representative, may ask the auditor, Sheena Phillips, questions about the accounts. Please contact the auditor at the address given above to make arrangements to ask any questions.
From 12 July 2023 to 23 August 2023 a local government elector for the area of the Council, or his/her representative, may object to the Council’s accounts asking that the auditor issue a report in the public interest (under section 24 of the Local Audit & Accountability Act 2014) and/or apply to the court for a declaration that an item in the accounts is contrary to law (under section 28 of the Local Audit & Accountability Act 2014). Written notice of a proposed objection and the grounds on which it is made must be sent to the auditor at the address given above and copied to me at the address given below.
Where possible, the council will endeavour to facilitate inspection of the accounts online to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19. Any physical inspection of the accounts will need to be mindful of government legislation and guidance on social distancing. This does not affect your statutory rights.
