Holocaust Memorial event last year

Over 170 people attended Brent Holocaust and Genocide Memorial commemoration at Brent Civic Centre.  Speakers included Holocaust survivor, Reverend Bernd Koschland MBE, who left home aged eight on kindertransport to Britain leaving behind his parents, who he never saw again and Bosnian survivor, Nisad Jakupovic who gave a very harrowing experience of his time in a concentration camp where there was torture and near starvation.

The 78 (Wembley) Squadron, Air Training Corps lit the memorial candles and there were performances by The London Cantorial Singers and JFS Choir.

The theme of the 2018 event was ‘THE POWER OF WORDS: words can make a massive difference – both for good and evil.  Please watch this year's moving video of the event.

The Holocaust and subsequent genocides took place because the local populations allowed persecution to take place and did not speak out. We aim to remember victims of the Holocaust and other genocide survivors with real life survival stories of what happened in the past in order to prevent it happening again in the future. We will also talk about the steps of genocide and how this builds up to a climate of fear and hatred against particular members of society.
