Brent Start Courses for Adults with Learning Disabilites

The following courses take place between 8 January to 5 July 2018 during term time on different days of the week.

Cafe and Enterprise 

This course is 3 days per week on site on Mons, Wed and Thurs

It is aimed at those who have an interest in working in a catering environment. This course will enable you to gain practical work experience working in Sarayan’s Café our onsite café at Stonebridge Centre, one day a week whilst attending class two days each week.

Retail Customer Service

This course is 2 days per week Tues and Weds. We will support you in gaining 1 day volunteering in a local shop.

It is aimed at those who have an interest in retail and would like to gain employment or work voluntarily in this field. This course will enable you to gain practical work experience working in a local shop for a minimum of one day each week whilst attending class two days each week to support learners as they increase their self-esteem and build their confidence.

Gardening Project

This course is 2 days per week on Mons and Tues

It is aimed at those who have an interest in gardening and would like to gain employment or work voluntarily in this field. The focus of this basic practical horticulture course is on growing herbs and vegetables taking you through the planting, growing and harvesting year cycle.

The course which is mainly outdoors is based in the Brent Start garden and or a community allotment. Students will be expected to make their own way to the allotment site each week.

Towards Employment - Entry 2

This course is 2 days per week on Mons and Tues

It is aimed at those who wish to progress their skills towards getting a job.

Skills for Work- Entry 3

This course is 2 days per week on Tues and Thurs 

It is aimed at those who wish to gain employment or improve their performance at work.

ALD courses are free if:

  • On Job Seekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance (Work Related Activity Group) or Universal Credit (and mandated to skills training)

  • Unemployed and in receipt of a state benefit who self-declare that they are seeking work

  • Employed for less than 16hrs and in receipt of any state benefit who self-declare that they are seeking work

However, if not in receipt of any of these benefits you will need to pay £330 per term which is the course fees for all ALD courses except in the case of Café and Enterprise which is £465 per term.
