Celebrating the Somali Achievements in World War One

Celebrating the Somali Achievements in World War One

6 August to 30 September at Harlesden Library

1 October to 5 January 2019 at The Library at Willesden Green

Previously (14 May 2018 – 6 August at The Civic Centre)

This exciting exhibition of interviews, photos and objects explores the involvement of Somalis in the First World War and offers the opportunity to explore little known narratives of WW1 and military expeditions in East Africa.

Created by the Somali Advice and Forum of Information (SAAFI) community organisation in partnership with Brent Museum and Archives and The Somaliland Scouts Association. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

This exhibition is part of the commemorations taking place across Britain to mark the centenary of WW1 and includes a number of associated events such as a lecture by internationally renowned Somali archaeologist Dr. Sade Mira and traditional Somali poetry and craft making for children.

Visit this fascinating exhibition and discover stories of poetry, war and the famous camel – mounted army unit.
