On Sunday 14 November, Brent residents and leaders will don their poppies once more and pay their respects to the fallen at the Borough Civic Remembrance Service in Barham Park.

Headed by the Regent Brass Brand, the parade will include groups across the community such as the Army, Navy and Air Force Cadets, Police Cadets, St John’s Ambulance, and Sea Cadets. The parade will end at the memorial site with a general salute before the service begins.

With last year’s event being virtual due to the pandemic, this Remembrance Service holds extra significance. The Brent community will be together in-person to honour those who gave their lives in the World Wars and other conflicts.

Dean of Brent, Fr Andrew Teather will lead tributes during the service and winners of the Deputy Lieutenant’s Prize Essay Competition will have the opportunity to read their compositions.

Throughout the service, various groups and leaders across Brent will lay wreaths including the Mayor of Brent, locals MPs, The Jewish Military Association, the London Assembly Member for Brent and Harrow and The British Legion.

Mayor of Brent, Cllr Lia Colacicco, said, “We shall not forget those who gave their lives to protect our nation. As we could not meet physically due to lockdown restrictions last year, I’m so pleased that we are able to come together as a community to pay our respects to those who bravely served.”

Available until 30 January, Willesden Green Library will also be hosting a free exhibition about The Royal West African Frontier Force in the Second World War. Click here for more information.
