Six of Brent parks have won Gold at the prestigious London in Bloom awards, with judges praising the borough for its sustainable approach to managing green spaces, its community partnerships and the delivery of an outstanding service in partnership with Veolia.
London in Bloom recognises the capital’s best open spaces and those who work tirelessly to create vibrant neighbourhoods for everyone to enjoy. Gold awards went to:
- Fryent Park
- Woodcock Park
- Roe Green Walled Garden
- Gladstone Park Walled Garden
- Mapesbury Dell
- Harlesden Town Garden
Harlesden Town Garden, a community garden, not only won Gold in the Small Park of the Year category, but also rated Outstanding in the ‘Your Neighbourhood’ category. The Friends of Harlesden Town Garden manage the park.
For the second year, Roe Green Walled Garden was also the overall Category winner for Small Conservation Area of the Year, which is a fantastic achievement for Barn Hill Conservation Group who manage the garden.
In addition, two silver gilts were awarded to Barham Park Walled Garden and Roundwood Park.
Judges praised the borough’s approach to conservation, sustainability and improving local horticultural standards over the last two years, with grounds maintenance partner Veolia.
Councillor Krupa Sheth, Lead Member for Environment at Brent Council, said:
“It’s wonderful news that Brent has been recognised for not just one, but eight of the prestigious London in Bloom awards.
“We are extremely proud of our staff and partners, Veolia for maintaining parks and open spaces to such a high standard. A huge thank you also to the Friends of Parks group who play a big role in looking after our parks.
“Our green spaces were, and continue to be, a source of positivity, health and wellbeing for local residents during the pandemic. We are committed to maintaining these community areas for everyone to enjoy and benefit from.”
Last year’s awards were cancelled due to the pandemic, and this year’s October ceremony was held as a digital event for the very first time.
