Now in its fifth year, the Small Business Saturday Awards is a borough-wide celebration of independent retailers, restaurants, cafés and local businesses that have gone the extra mile.

The awards will reflect the many challenges Brent businesses have faced over the last year and celebrate the innovation, adaptability and resilience they have shown.

There are seven award categories that businesses can nominate themselves for including: ‘Best Online Presence’, ‘Friendliest Business’ and ‘Best Business Partnership’.

Businesses can highlight the important work they have been doing to help tackle the climate emergency in the ‘Most Green Business’ award and showcase their stores in the ‘Best Shop Front’ and ‘Best Business Interior’ categories.

Recognising the value of independent businesses ‘Best Contribution to the Community’ will also be awarded and two councillor-nominated awards, ‘Best Place to Eat/Drink’ and ‘Best Place to Shop’ are up for grabs too.

A panel of judges will select the winners from a shortlisted list of nominations. The winners will be presented with their awards at a special ceremony at Brent Civic Centre.

The winning businesses will be promoted across Brent Council’s social media channels and will feature in a double page spread in Your Brent Magazine, delivered to over 135,000 homes in the borough.

Cllr Shama Tatler, Lead Member for Regeneration, Property & Planning at Brent Council said:

“Local businesses are the lifeblood of our high streets and much loved by the community.

“They have had a turbulent, stressful and uncertain 18 months and we are committed to supporting them to bounce back from the pandemic.

“This includes our Shop Safe, Shop Local campaign, the reopening of our Back to Business Grants, and our extensive programme of work in place to revitalise high streets across the borough.

“The Small Business Saturday Awards recognise independent traders that have gone above and beyond, shining a spotlight on their contributions to our borough, helping raise their profiles in the community.

“Small Businesses not only help to provide local jobs and support local economic growth, but make Brent a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

“So if your business deserves recognition, we want to hear from you and learn about all the great work you are doing – submit your nomination today.

“I wish all of our businesses the very best of luck.”

This council-run event is a local addition to Small Business Saturday, a national campaign taking place on 4 December 2021. The campaign encourages people to shop local and support small businesses in their community.

Businesses can nominate themselves for free by completing this online form. The deadline for nominations is Monday 8 November at 1pm.
