Nominations for The Pride of Brent Awards are now closed.  Thank you to everyone that submitted a nomination. 

A panel of judges is now considering all entries and will narrow them down to a shortlist.

Finalists will be invited to a ceremony on Wednesday 6 July where the winners will be revealed.

If you want to recognise the incredible role of adult social care workers, nominations are still open for the Adult Social Care Awards.


About the Pride of Brent Awards

The Pride of Brent Awards celebrate the unsung local heroes and keyworkers in Brent. Previous winners include individuals who have organised projects with young people to help them reach their full potential, climate conscious businesses who are working to create more sustainable high streets and volunteers who put their neighbour’s needs first.

The award categories are:

Awards for individuals

  • Community champion of the year
  • Good neighbour of the year
  • Volunteer of the year
  • Environmentalist of the year


Awards for community groups

  • Community project of the year
  • Community group of the year
  • Eco-Project of the year


Business awards

  • Responsible business of the year
  • Most sustainable business of the year

The award categories

Below, you will find more information about each of the award categories.


Awards for individuals

Community champion of the year

  • Criteria: People who have provided outstanding voluntary service on a regular basis to help with the running of a local voluntary or community organisation, club or group to meet the needs of the local community.
  • Who is it for: Individuals aged over 21 who have worked for a Brent-based voluntary or community organisation, club or group for at least three years.

Good neighbour of the year

  • Criteria: People who have gone out of their way to help and improve the life of fellow residents and or neighbour(s) in their local communities.
  • Who is it for: Individuals aged over 21 who live in Brent who give their time free of charge.

Volunteer of the year

  • Criteria: People who have freely volunteered their time to a project and made a significant difference in their community.
  • Who is it for: Individuals aged over 21 who have regularly volunteered with a Brent based voluntary or community organisation, club or group for at least three years.

Environmentalist of the year

  • Criteria: People who have gone above and beyond to make a change that protects or improves Brent’s environment.
  • Who is it for: Individuals aged over 21 who live in Brent who give their time free of charge.


Awards for community groups

Community project of the year

  • Criteria: A successful project that has exceeded its outcomes, created lasting benefits and helped to build a stronger, happier and healthier community.
  • Who is it for: Constituted not-for-profit voluntary and community groups.

Community group of the year

  • Criteria: A community group that has made an exceptional contribution to their area and its residents. These unpaid heroes will be local people of different backgrounds will have carried out activities that made a lasting difference in their community with the potential to inspire others.
  • Who is it for: Constituted not-for-profit voluntary and community groups.

Eco-project of the year

  • Criteria: A successful project that has brought the local community together to address the climate emergency.
  • Who is it for: Not-for-profit voluntary and community groups.

Business awards

Responsible business of the year

  • Criteria: A business that has delivered positive benefits to Brent residents or local small to medium sized businesses.
  • Who is it for: Any sized Brent-based business. Headquarters can be based elsewhere.

Most sustainable business of the year

  • Criteria: A business that works in a sustainable way and contributes to a circular economy.
  • Who is it for: Any sized Brent-based business. Headquarters can be based elsewhere.

Nomination rules and how to apply

The following nomination rules apply:

  • Individual nominees must live, work or volunteer in Brent.
  • Do not submit more than one nomination per individual or group in a single category.
  • Do not nominate a current councillor or officer of Brent Council.
  • Do not nominate someone if you are a current councillor or officer of Brent Council.
  • The individual, group or business you nominate must agree to being nominated.
  • Nominated businesses cannot be under investigation by the police or Brent Council.
  • Experience as a carer for close friends and relatives cannot be considered as the awards recognise voluntary work which helps the wider community.
  • An individual, group or business can only win one award. If they are nominated by different people for more than one award, the judging panel will decide which category they are most suited to.
  • Previous councillors cannot be nominated unless it has been at least five years since they were in office.
  • Nominations for party political related work will not be accepted.


Closing date for nominations

Nominations must be submitted online, or a hard copy delivered to Brent Civic Centre, by Sunday 1 May 2022.

Next steps

  • Officers will review the nominations and create a shortlist.
  • The judging panel, including the Leader of the Council, Mayor of Brent, Chief Executive and representatives from youth and voluntary organisations, will consider the shortlist and decide the final winners.
  • The winners and those who nominated them will be invited to the awards ceremony at Brent Civic Centre on 6 July 2022 to receive their award.
