Women make up 70% of Brent’s new Cabinet following the council’s Annual General Meeting, which was held at Brent Civic Centre this evening (18 May).
Cllr Muhammed Butt, who was first elected Leader in May 2012, was re-elected as Council Leader and said: “the people of Brent have reinvested their trust in us”. Cllr Butt promised to “repay that trust by delivering on resident’s priorities – moving forward together, and leaving no one behind”.
The Labour Party has a majority on Brent Council after winning 49 seats at the Local Elections held earlier this month. The Conservative Party won five seats and The Liberal Democrats won three seats.
In his first speech of an historic fourth term in office, the council leader promised to create new, safe and secure homes for local people, ensure a cleaner, greener and carbon-free future and provide everyone with equal opportunities to succeed.
Cllr Mili Patel was elected Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, Resources and Reform. The eight other councillors who make up the Cabinet, which is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the council, are:

- Cllr Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure and Climate Action
- Cllr Promise Knight, Cabinet Member for Housing, Homelessness and Renters Security
- Cllr Gwen Grahl, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Schools
- Cllr Fleur Donnelly-Jackson, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement, Equalities and Culture
