Are you a young person passionate about your local community and keen to learn more about local decision-making?

Get involved in Local Democracy Week by joining one of our free events taking place during the October half term (24-28 October). Come along to learn about democracy and how you could help shape the decisions that really matter in your local area.

“

It's so important that people from all walks of life get involved in local decision-making. There are so many opportunities to make a positive impact in your community. Local Democracy Week is the perfect time to start doing that.

”

Cllr Muhammed Butt,
Leader of Brent Council

The following events are free and open to all:

Welcome to Your Vote

This online Zoom event, taking place on Monday 24 October at 5.30pm, is designed to introduce young people to voting. Developed by the Electoral Commission and led by the council’s Electoral Services Team, attendees will be invited to take part in a series of events including:

  • The Electoral Commission bingo
  • True or false
  • Quiz: who controls what?
  • Building the ideal Parliament
  • Opinion Line - an opportunity for young people to give their opinions key topical issues  (e.g. if the current voting age is right)
  • Find and fix
  • Give me three - attendees will be asked to provide at least three facts about various political topics (such as UK parliament)
  • Your ideal representative - attendees will be asked which skills, qualities and experiences their ideal representative would have.

Question Time Brent

Question Time Brent is back! Following the success of last year, our panel is back and ready to take your questions. The event will take place online on Thursday 27 October at 5pm and this year’s theme will focus on the cost of living crisis.

All are encouraged to send your questions in advance to localdemocracyweek@brent.gov.uk by Wednesday 26 October.

You can register for either of these events on the Eventbrite website.
